On the western side of the Garhwal Himalayas is the famous pilgrim trail towards Gaumukh(4500m), the actual source of the Ganges at the tip of the Gangotri glaciers. The Gangotri glacier is a sea of ice almost 30kms long. Around Gangotri can be seen legendary mountains, i.e. Shivling, the three peaks of Bhagirathi, Sudarshan and Meru. The trek continue into the breathtaking high altitude pastures of Nandanvan and Tapovan.
